Region Win Improves the Jacks to 4-1 in Region Play
The #19th ranked Chesapeake College Skipjacks get back into Region XX play as they traveled to Rockville, Maryland to take on Montgomery College (MD). The Skipjacks headed into the matchup with a 3-1 region record and the Raptors hold a 3-2 region record.
After an early back-and-forth scoring clinic from both teams, the Skipjacks took control of the game and went into halftime with a ten point advantage over the Raptors.
Montgomery College came out of halftime and immediately erased the ten point halftime deficit. The Raptors took the lead in the second half, but the Skipjacks down 8 with 5 minutes to go, battled back and took the lead with 2:32 to go on a Xavier Buchanan three pointer. Montgomery tied it at 88-88 with 1:33 to go, the Jacks got a steal from Marquis Hamby that led to a Shaun Moody layup with 44 seconds and Moody would ice it after a defensive stop to give the Jacks the 92-88 victory.
Four players for the Skipjacks scored in double figures to help secure the win. After missing ten games due to injury, in his first game back, Marquis Hamby led the Jacks in scoring off the bench with a 25 point performance. He also had five assists, three, rebounds, one block, and one steal. La'Shaun Moody had 23 points, six assists, three steals, and one rebound. Xavier Buchana added 17 points and knocked down five three-pointers. Cade Campell contributed 11 points and three made three-pointers.
The Peake will be back on the road on Saturday, January 17th at 4 PM as they travel to Johnstown, Pennsylvania to take on Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.
