Skipjacks Start 2026 with a Win
The Chesapeake College Skipjacks come into 2026 as the #22 ranked NJCAA DII Men's Basketball team in the national poll. They will be opening up at home against Harrisburg Area Community College (PA) on Wednesday, January 7th and then will host NJCAA DII #21 ranked Raritan Valley Community College (NJ) on Saturday, January 10th.
After a three week break, the Jacks came into the game on a two-game winning streak and were looking to add on to that. Harrisburg Area came into the game with a 2-10 overall record.
Within the first ten minutes into the first half the Skipjacks jumped out to take a 16-point advantage over the Hawks, 30-14. Over the final ten minutes of the first half the Peake could not be stopped from scoring the ball, as they put up another 30 points to score 60 in the first half. They were also able to keep Harrisburg Area in check on the defensive side of the ball as well, only allowing a total of 31 points for the first half. Chesapeake went into halftime with a 60-31 lead.
Harrisburg Area Community College were able to match the Skipjacks' energy coming out of halftime but weren't able to gain advantage to cut into the lead. Over the course of the second half, the scoring was back-and-forth and the Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College weren't able to get the lead under 26 points. Chesapeake cruised to a 107-74 win.
In the win, five players notched double figures and all players were able to see minutes on the court. La'Shaun Moody led the way with a 22 point, four rebounds, four assist, and two steals performance. Off the bench, Cade Campbell contributed 17 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Xavier Buchanan chipped in 16 points. Shamar Parker added 11.
Chesapeake will be back in action on Saturday, January 10th as they host #21 ranked Raritan Valley Community College (NJ) at 1 PM.
