The Skipjacks opened the 2025-2026 season this past weekend in the "Hoop Here Get There Classic" at Howard Community College. The Jacks split the two games, going 1-1, defeating Mercer County Community College (NJ) on Saturday and falling to Monroe Community College (NY) on Sunday.
In Saturday's season opener, the Jacks took a twelve point lead into halftime vs. Mercer before pulling away enroute to a 79-58 victory. SO La'Shaun Moody (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge) led the way with a 20 point performance. Moody also added seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. FR Careen Bolden (Seaford, DE/Decatur HS) added 18 points in his collegiate debut and transfer Marquis Hamby (Troy, NY/Winchedon Prep) added 15 points. Chesapeake knocked down 11 three-pointers, while also forcing 32 Mercer turnovers.
In Sunday's matchup with Monroe, who were right behind the Jacks in the NJCAA DII National Rankings, the Jacks came up short in a tough back and forth battle. After trailing 29-20 at halftime, the Jacks fought back to tie the score with 8:25 to go in the game on free throws by La'Shaun Moody, but the Jacks were held scoreless for the next three minutes of the game and could not get the Monroe lead down past four, as Monroe made free throws to hold off Chesapeake 71-66. SO Marquis Hamby (Troy, NY/Winchendon Prep) played all 40 minute and led all scorers with a 26 point performance. SO La'Shaun Moody(Cambridge, MD/Cambridge) poured in 18 and FR Elisha Johnson-Dixon (Seaford, DE/Early College) chipped in 13 points.
The Jacks will be heading to North Jersey on Saturday, November 8th, for a showdown against Essex County College at 4 PM.
