Skipjacks Win Last Regular Season Game

Skipjacks Win Last Regular Season Game

The Chesapeake College Skipjacks went to North East, Maryland to end the regular season against Cecil College in a must-needed win for a guaranteed spot in the NJCAA DII Region 20 Postseason Tournament.

Both teams would get off to a slow start in the first half. Cecil gave Chesapeake early problems as they seemed to grab every offensive rebound that came off the rim for easy put backs. Early turnovers allowed both teams to get out in transition to score easy baskets. Chesapeake would eventually settle in and make it a three possession game during the closing minutes of the first half.  The Skipjacks would go into halftime with a 36-28 lead over Cecil.

Chesapeake came out after halftime and increased their defensive intensity. The Jacks were able to force 14 Cecil turnovers in the second half and held Cecil to 27% shooting from the field in the 2nd half. The Skipjacks were able to drop in 43 points in the second half while shooting 46% from the field and 43% from behind the arc. Chesapeake would go on to easily win the game, 79-50.

SO Marquis Hamby/WinchendonPrep led Chesapeake in scoring with a 19 point performance. He shot over 50% from the field and knocked down 3 three-pointers. SO Vince Gilberto/Queen Anne's HS knocked down 4 three-pointers and finished with 14 points. FR Elisha Johnson-Dixon/Early College HS chipped in with 11 points.
