’Jacks finish trip by blanking Sullivan, 5-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Tyler Tobin threw a complete-game three-hitter and struck out nine Thursday as Chesapeake College ended its spring break trip with a 5-0 win over Sullivan Community College.

The Skipjacks (10-8) had dropped seven of nine while facing a challenging schedule on their southern swing.  Chesapeake, however, used Tobin's strong pitching and an offense that scored runs in five different innings to snap a five-game losing streak.

Matthew Schotanus walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by JD Correa (3-for-4) to give Chesapeake a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  Jordan Gowe (2-for-4) led off the third with a single, stole second and third, and scored on an error to make it 2-0.  An inning later, Gowe delivered an RBI double that scored Casey Joseph to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Schotanus walked again with one out in the fifth and eventually scored on a single by Brice Manship (2-for-4).  Chesapeake scored its final run in the seventh as Correa doubled with one out and scored on Lane Farmer's hit.

A day earlier, Camden County College swept a doubleheader from the Skipjacks, 5-2 and 11-4.

The Skipjacks play a noon doubleheader Saturday at Anne Arundel Community College and a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Stevenson University.  Chesapeake hosts Frederick Community College Tuesday at 3 p.m.
