Chesapeake tops CSM, improves to 4-0
LA PLATA – Daniel Allen went 2-for-5, scored twice and drove in a run Tuesday afternoon as Chesapeake College's baseball team topped the College of Southern Maryland, 5-3.
Jordan Gowe had a double and drove in a run while Matthew Schotanus had the Skipjacks' only other hit. Casey Joseph scored twice and Kam Stewart scored a run for the Skipjacks, who benefited from six walks issued by CSM pitchers.
William Kane (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Skipjacks (4-0), who won their Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference opener. Kane allowed one run on two hits and two walks over the first five innings while striking out eight.
Kent Island High graduate Jake Brown earned the save, yielding two runs on four hits over the final four innings.
Chesapeake blew out to a 5-0 lead midway through the fourth.
"We scored some early runs and our pitching was outstanding," said Chesapeake head coach Frank Szymanski. "We're definitely happy with our record – we're just hoping the weather will come around soon so we can get out on the field on a regular basis."

GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Daniel Allen and Kam Stewart each went 4-for-4 as the Skipjacks banged out 19 hits in winning Game 1 of last Saturday's doubleheader.
Allen scored three times and drove in five runs while Stewart scored four runs and drove in another. Jordan Gowe (four runs, RBI), Trent Ehret (two runs), and J.D. Correa each had two hits for the Skipjacks.
Winning pitcher Jim Wix improved to 2-0 by allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings. Connor Gorman pitched the final two innings, allowing only an unearned run.
Chesapeake 3, Jamestown CC 0
GLEN ALLEN, Va. – Winning pitcher Tyler Tobin (1-0) combined with relievers Jack Wood and Scott Abt on a three-hit shutout that included 15 strikeouts last Saturday as the Skipjacks completed the doubleheader sweep of Jamestown.
Tobin struck out 10 and walked one while allowing two hits in 4 1/3 innings. Wood gave up a hit and whiffed two with a walk in 1 2/3 innings and Abt threw a perfect seventh inning with three strikeouts.
Jordan Gowe went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace Chesapeake's seven-hit attack. J.D. Correa had a hit and drove in a run.
