Correa drives in five as ’Jacks rout PG in opener
RICHMOND, Va. – J.D. Correa went 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in five runs, including a two-run double in an eight-run first inning, as Chesapeake College opened its baseball season last Monday with a 16-3 victory over Prince George's Community College.
The first nine batters reached base in the opening inning as the Skipjacks took command early.
"We were dialed in," said Chesapeake head coach Frank Szymanski. "This was our first day out on the field and our guys were ready to be outside in a competitive environment. I just thought our focus was outstanding."
Lane Farmer (2-for-2, run, two doubles, two walks) and Daniel Allen (single, three runs) each drove in two runs for the Skipjacks. Kam Stewart (two runs) and Paxton Batson (double, two runs) each went 2-for-3 as the Skipjacks finished with 11 hits and took advantage of seven walks.
Casey Joseph and Jordan Gowe each went 1-for-3 while scoring twice for the Skipjacks.
Winning pitcher Jim Wix (1-0) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with a strikeout in three innings. Reliever Tyler Tobin finished up the five-inning contest with two scoreless frames, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four.
"I thought they both threw extremely well, especially for the first time in a game situation," said Szymanski of his pitchers. "They had excellent poise and command."
Chesapeake plays at CCBC-Dundalk Friday in a noon doubleheader.
